Situation in Nepal (March 2024)
The economy in Nepal continues to recover and there are more jobs in tourism and traditional crafts.
Schools are open normally.
Current major projects
The new Gautam Buddha International Airport in Lumbini is open since April 2022.
The new «Pokhara International Airport» is open since 2023.
The "Melamchi Project" will supply the people in the Kathmandu valley with drinking water in the future. Damages caused by storms are still being repaired.
25th of April 2015 – the day that changed everything
On 25th of April 2015, Nepal was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake; this was followed by another 7.3 magnitude earthquake just over a fortnight later; after that there were more than 500 aftershocks up to magnitude 5.5. More than 9600 people were killed and millions were affected.
Unfortunately, a large part of the donations was blocked by the government, so that reconstruction progressed only very slowly.
The Nepalese economy has recovered day by day over the past eight years, but the pandemic has set it back again.
